Creating A Solid Marketing Strategy
I like to break down Sustainable Marketing (the OPPOSITE of feast and famine marketing) into three categories.
- Setting up your foundation
- Slow Marketing
- Fast Marketing
Here’s a quick summary:
Setting up your foundation: Websites that Convert
Websites are the foundation of any online business, and no amount of marketing can make up for a poorly designed or structured website. Without the right design and layout, visitors will struggle to find what they need, and won’t be able to convert easily. This means that your marketing efforts won’t be as effective as they could be and could lead to fewer conversions than you’re expecting. Therefore, it’s essential to make sure your website is set up in a way that allows visitors to quickly find what they need and convert without an issue.
And stop believing the “Instagram marketing hype” that you don’t need a website or that you can get by with a Stan account. It’s not true if you want your lead generation to be sustainable (and trust me – you do).
If you need a new website, I’m offering “Website in a Weekend” services now.
Slow marketing
Slow marketing strategies like blogging or Pinterest don’t yield results overnight, but they keep bringing in customers “for the long haul”. They’re like a good investment that requires less work to maintain but pays off steadily. Are you using slow marketing to grow your business? Slow marketing is typically search-driven, which makes the content last longer.
Fast marketing
Think Instagram with its 24-48 hour reach – fast marketing is all about getting in front of your audience, fast! Whether it’s building followers, creating buzz or capturing attention, the key is taking action quickly! It’s great for getting new customers in the door fast, but it’s not a sustainable marketing strategy on it’s own. When I think about feast or famine marketing, fast marketing strategies are usually the culprit.
You Need All Three For a Sustainable Marketing Strategy.
I believe you need a mix of these three to run a truly sustainable business. Too many of us are relying only on “fast marketing” which is essentially a roller coaster of “too busy, no time for marketing” and “oh no, my client work is done and I have no leads”.
While “just” fast marketing OR “just” slow marketing will work separately (which is likely what got you to the point of reading this post right now), to run a truly successful and sustainable business, you should have a healthy balance!
What order should you improve your marketing in?
Without knowing anything about your business, this order tends to work well for most creatives I work with.
- Set your website up for conversion. If your Website Copy won’t convert, none of the other services matter. Learn more about my Website in a Weekend package if that’s what you need right now.
- Add some fuel: Blogging for SEO is great because not only does it bring in more traffic, it warms up that traffic too. If you have the bandwidth, you can add in some “fast marketing” like Instagram. If ou want to learn how to blog better, click here. If you want to outsource it and rarely think about it ever again, click here.
- Scale your efforts by adding in Pinterest and maybe even some email marketing. Again, only if you have the time, add in fast marketing. You can repurpose your website copy & blog posts for fast marketing too.
Why does balancing fast and slow marketing stop feast or famine marketing?
If I know you, your funnel is being filled by things like Instagram and referrals, which is why you go through feast or famine marketing mode. You only get leads from Instagram when you show up there. When you are busy working on client work or fulfilling orders, you aren’t as consistent, which means when those projects are done, you have no leads waiting for you. So you start going hard and hustling again.
If, on the other hand, you had started blogging and using Pinterest marketing, it wouldn’t matter when you fell into busy seasons because as long as your content was relevant, you would keep showing up. Say goodbye to feast or famine marketing. I have to be honest with you guys, in my wedding business, we generate leads almost ENTIRELY using slow marketing (blogging and Pinterest).
