Meet Kara

Are you tired of spending hours creating Instagram Reels, only for them to disappear into obscurity after just a few short days? As a small business owner, you know that video content is king in today’s social media landscape. That’s why you want to stretch your video content as far as possible, reaching as many potential customers as you can. Luckily, there’s Pinterest. In today’s post, I’m going to walk you through a step-by-step guide to repurpose Instagram reels into idea pins.

Why Pinterest Idea Pins?

You should repurpose Instagram reels EVERYWHERE. As a social media platform, Pinterest has a unique focus on ideas – users come to the platform to search for inspiration, ideas, and solutions to their problems. As a small business owner, you can leverage that focus to drive traffic to your website and increase sales by creating idea pins. Idea pins are a relatively new feature on Pinterest – they used to be called story pins – that allow you to create engaging and eye-catching content that can help you connect with potential customers.

Listen – I know that creating engaging video content for multiple platforms can be a daunting task. That’s why repurposing your Instagram Reels as idea pins on Pinterest is such a smart move. By doing so, you can reach a new audience, drive traffic to your website, and get more mileage out of the videos you’ve already invested time and energy creating.

1. Double Check Your Video Doesn’t Have Instagram Specific CTAs

The first step when you want to repurpose Instagram reels into idea pins is to make sure that the video doesn’t have any Instagram-specific text on it, like “comment below.” While you want to repurpose your Instagram Reels, you also want the video to look natural on Pinterest and not appear like it was created for another platform.

2. Use an Instagram Reels Downloader Online

Type “Instagram Reels Downloader” into Google and you’ll find a million free options. This is the one I usually use, but I don’t think there is one “best” option. That way, it will download with sound (compared to if you save the video from the app, it will download without sound). With that said, you may also want to post the video without sound to avoid copyright issues anyway. This is because some songs are not licensed for use on Pinterest, and your video may be removed if it contains copyrighted music. To avoid this, you can add your own music or use their free music library.

3. Add a “Closing Slide” or a Few Other Photos/Graphics After Your Video

When it comes to creating engaging content for Pinterest, there are a few best practices to keep in mind. One of these is adding a “closing slide” or a few additional photos or graphics after your video content when creating idea pins.

Adding a closing slide to your idea pins is important because it provides a clear call-to-action for the viewer. This is especially important on Pinterest, where users are often searching for inspiration or looking for solutions to a specific problem. By adding a closing slide with a specific CTA, you’re encouraging viewers to take action and visit your website, product page, or landing page. This can help increase the chances of converting views into sales or leads.

Another reason to add additional photos or graphics after your video is to make your idea pin more visually interesting and engaging. Pinterest is a platform that is highly visual and users are naturally drawn to beautiful and engaging content. By including additional photos, graphics or content, you’re making your idea pin stand out and encouraging users to engage with it.

It’s also important to keep in mind that Pinterest rewards pins that are engaging and have high-quality content. Pinterest does not consider a “one slide” idea pin to be content-rich or engaging enough, so it is essential to include a closing slide or additional content to ensure your pin is successful.

4. Choose an Eye-Catching Cover Image to Repurpose Instagram Reels

The cover image is the first thing that users will see and it needs to be visually appealing and eye-catching enough to make them stop scrolling and click on the pin. This is especially important when repurposing Instagram reels as it helps to tie the content together, giving users a clear idea of what they can expect from the pin. Remember that Pinterest is a highly visual platform, so the cover image needs to be strong enough to stand out among the competition and catch the attention of potential viewers.

5. Add a keyword-rich title, description, and tags

Keywords are imperative on Pinterest because they help users find the content they are looking for. By incorporating relevant keywords into your pins, you increase the chances that your content will be seen by the right people. Keywords also give your pins more visibility in search engine results, which means more potential viewers and followers. At the time of writing, the description field is still being rolled out, so if you don’t have it yet, write your description under notes. Then, add up to ten tags that are relevant to the topic of your Instagram reel.

This is NEW! Once you publish your idea pins, you can go in and click “Edit” and you should have the option to add a link. If you don’t have it yet, stay tuned! This new feature has been SUCH a relief to us as Pinterest managers because it has been so frustrating watching idea pins being pushed without being able to add links. Definitely take advantage of this new feature!

Hire a Pinterest Manager to Help You Repurpose Instagram Reels + Stay Consistent

By repurposing Instagram reels into idea pins and following best practices such as using engaging cover images and adding closing slides, you can create engaging content that resonates with your audience and encourages them to take action. You SHOULD repurpose Instagram reels!

However, creating and managing content for Pinterest can be time-consuming and overwhelming, especially for small business owners with limited resources. That’s where a Pinterest manager can help. A skilled and experienced Pinterest manager can help you stay consistent with your content schedule on the platform, create visually appealing pins, analyze metrics, and identify areas for improvement, ultimately helping you generate more leads and grow your business.
